Katie and I were itching to go camping. The forecast did not look very dry though, so we settled for a small overnighter. Neither of us had been to this part of the park before, and we prepared ourselves for a little wet adventure. I picked Katie up just after 5pm, and thanks to the wonders of HOV lanes, we were at the trailhead by 6pm. Of course, being early February, it was pretty much completely dark by then.
There was a small pullout across the road from the trailhead where we could park, and the first part of the trail was actually a hydro access road. We put on our packs and set off in the dark. The wide track was ideal for night hiking without lights, and we must have gone three or four hundred metres before we arrived at a spot we deemed our campsite (which happened to be in the middle of the first fork off the road). The running joke was that we would be able to see the car in the morning from the tent, but small bends in the road saved us from that.

We set up camp and had dinner. We were both expecting to be spending the rest of the evening in the tent hiding from the rain. As it turned out, the skies cleared up, and there were even stars visible in the sky. But neither of us were particularly energetic, so we just retired into the tent. After a game of crib, we took some of the best pictures from the trip. Setting Katie's camera to a 15s exposure, we painted with our headlamps; the photos can be found on her gallery site.
The next morning, we packed up, had breakfast, and went for a walk after dropping our stuff off in the car. All that, and we were back in town by 10am.
